SAVANNA – CHAPADA DOS GUIMARAES – SOFT EXTENSION CRAZY FOR NATURE

 

The heartland of Brazil covers an area equal to Western Europe (2,000,000 sq km), and its original vegetation is called “CERRADO”, considered the richest savanna in the world, due to its high plant diversity and endemism. Most of Brazil’s big rivers find their sources here. It’s an area of enormous ecological importance with many areas of spectacular beauty, as the National Park of “Chapada dos Guimarães”, only 55km North East from Cuiabá airport. Its biodiversity includes: 837 birds spices, 161 mammals, 120 reptiles and over 10.000 vascular plants from witch 44% are endemic.


For those who like hiking longer into the savanna, we propose this soft adventure, sleeping under palm tree roof, in hammocks.


Hiking of medium level, although long. Around 20 Km per day, great variety of natural environment, with altitudes that vary from 830 to 200 mts. From the top of the Table land to low areas of the savanna, crossing forests, climbing hills, and bathing in crystal clear waterfalls . Rich in cultural and historical aspects.

DAY 1 – PARK ECO LODGE - SAO JERONIMO AND MAGESSI TRAIL


Departure from the ECO PARK LODGE, to climb the Sao Jeronimo hill, about 3 to 4 hours. Lunch on the way. Taking the Magessi Trail to go down to the low areas, passing by the Aricazinho waterfall, to arrive at the community for dinner at camp site. and overnight in hammocks.

 
DAY 2 – HISTORICAL RURAL COMMUNITY – TOPE DE FITA TRAIL


Be awaked by the morning jungle sounds. Have breakfast with typical “Guaraná Powder” drink. Departure heading the “ Community Urubamba” , rich in cultural aspects of the golden cycle of XVII century, having the opportunity to know some typical wooden made handicrafts.Forward to start the ascended trough the Tope de Fita Trail, to arrive at the ECO PARK LODGE End of the program.


PARK ECO LODGE
 
The Park Eco Lodge, strategically located on the borders of Chapada dos Guimarães National Park (S 15º 26’ 27’’ – W 55º 49’ 34’’) at an altitude of 750m, houses in its 150 hectares of private reserve 2 water-falls (from Dec. to Jul.), amazing outlook over the entire Park, caves, and several well prepared trails for the enjoyment of the most demanding nature lovers.

Its 8 rooms and 1 suite offer comfort with a charming decoration in full privacy and the “Teta da Loba” Restaurant & Bar serves delicatessen from the region rich flora.

From this Lodge most of the main attractions of the “Chapada dos Guimarães” National Park, as the 76m high Véu de Noiva waterfall, the 850m high “São Gerônimo” peak, the “Casa de Pedra” cave and the Complexo das Cachoeiras a sequence of 7 waterfalls, are at walking distance. Not to be forgotten are the almost daily, glorious sun set, that can be enjoyed from its large verandas and hammocks.

Capacity: Minimum 02 pax/Maximum 08 pax.
Type / Level: Ecotourism Type / Moderate Level Program.
Included: 1 overnight IN HAMMOCK at “ Comunidade Sao Jeronimo” with dinner and breakfast. All above mentioned activities.
Note: The activities described may be altered due to weather conditions, season or group make-up with the intent of maximizing your experience of the eco-system).
Guide Languages: English (with possibility of Spanish, German, Italian or French).
Not included: Air tickets to/from Cuiabá. Beverages. Medical expenses and hospitalization. Any type of insurance.
Recommended Gear: T-shirts, long sleeved shirt, sneakers or hiking boots, jeans or track suit, hat, sunscreen, mosquito repellent, binoculars, flashlight, camera and film. Sweatshirt or sweater recommended from June to September.
