AMAZON OF MATO GROSSO

The mythical Amazon can only be described in superlatives. It covers an area of more than 5 millions square kilometers of which 80% is on Brazilian territory and those spread in 8 states, one of which is the State fo Mato Grosso. It is the largest and most intact rain forest region in the world. Through this large area, flows an extensive drainage system of more than thousand rivers, which account for 20% of the world’s fresh surface water.

DAY 1 - CUIABA - AMAZON RAIN FOREST

Jardim da Amazonia Lodge (Recommendation: Schedule flight with A.M. arrival.) Arrival at Cuiabá/Várzea Grande airport or pick up at hotel and transfer to the Amazon Rain Forest. (290km – approximately 4.5 hours – 270 km paved + 20 km unpaved).

Check-in at Jardim da Amazonia Lodge. Birding along the Orchid Trail (numerous hummingbirds, painted parakeet, blue-headed parrot, masked trogon, etc.)

DAY 2 - AMAZON RAIN FOREST

After breakfast, amazing trails will take you deep into the Forest, which will bring you in contact with the fauna and flora.

Good chances to meet tapir, the largest mammal in South America as well as numerous birds (solitary tinamou, royal flycatcher, silver beaked tanager, etc.).

Canoeing The walk will be followed by boat trip on the River Claro, exploring the Anaconda Lake and stopping for swimming on the Palmeira beach.

Picnic lunch and nap in hammocks in the forest Picnic lunch and nap in hammocks in the forest. After lunch, canoe down the Claro River, enjoying the solitude of the jungle and its different life forms: (moscovy duck, long tailed tyrant, cormorant, Amazon kingfisher, green and rufous kingfisher, swallow tanager, herons…)

DAY 3 - AMAZON RAIN FOREST - CUIABÁ

After breakfast, departure to Cuiabá airport or to continuous to another ecosystem program (Chapada dos guimarães or Pantanal). (B)

GENERAL INFORMATION

Capacity:	Minimum 2 pax. Maximum 20 pax.
Type / Level:	Ecotourism Type / Moderate Level Program.
Included:	2 overnights in the Amazon rain Forest – Jardim da Amazônia Lodge, full board, activities similar to the above description and permanent assistance of an expert bilingual guide.
Note:	The activities described may be altered due to weather conditions, season or group make-up with the intent of maximizing your experience of the eco-system).
Guide Languages:	English (with possibility of Spanish, German, Italian or French).
Not included:	Air tickets to/from Cuiabá. Beverages. Medical expenses and hospitalization. Any type of insurance.
Recommended Gear:	T-shirts, long sleeved, light colored pants and shirts, hiking boots or comfortable shoes one doesn’t mind getting all muddy, hat, sunscreen, mosquito repellent, binoculars, flashlight, camera and film. Sweatshirt or sweater recommended from June to September.
